Single-Tooth Replacement for Chesterfield Residents
If you think that replacing a missing tooth is merely a cosmetic procedure, think again.
As soon as you lose one tooth, the other teeth in your mouth begin moving apart. This makes it easier for plaque to build up and it makes your teeth more difficult to clean and maintain.
This increases your risk of periodontal disease making it more likely that more teeth will fall out. Additionally, when a tooth is missing, the jawbone that once supported the tooth begins to recede. This process is known as resorption. Increased risk of periodontal disease also makes it more likely that the bacteria found in plaque will contribute to the deterioration of your jawbone. Allowed to go on long enough, this process will result in substantial disintegration of the jawbone, which can it more difficult for you to get dental implants in the future.
In the past, those with significant tooth loss opted for dentures or veneers. While these did a good job of hiding the problem, they did nothing to prevent the damage caused after the tooth was lost.
Instead, they resulted in further tooth decay and bone erosion.
Dental implants, on the other hand, look, feel, and act just like a real tooth would. And, because they are installed directly into the jawbone, they reinforce the bone while preventing your teeth from drifting apart and or undergoing an increased rate of periodontal decay.
Implant-Support Dentures at ActOn Implants
Traditional dentures and veneers are fitted to the mouth using either adhesive (like Fixodent) or they snap on. This might improve the overall aesthetics of your mouth but it won’t address the ongoing structural problems.
Implant-supported dentures are installed directly into the jawbone which means they’ll never fall out, you won’t have to worry about what you eat, and they will both look and feel like the real thing.
Furthermore, they will reduce the risk of decay related to having a missing tooth, especially periodontal disease. In cases where a patient has a number of teeth missing or there are a number of teeth that have significantly decayed, implant-supported dentures may be the best option for you.
In extremely advanced cases where none of the teeth in your upper or lower jaw are worth keeping, those teeth can successfully be removed and the fixed bridge can be installed in their place. This represents a much better option than replacing all the missing teeth individually.
ActOn Whole Mouth Replacements
If you have advanced tooth decay, or are missing several teeth, then full mouth replacements are an efficient option that gives you an entirely new set of teeth that look and feel like the real thing.
These are not dentures in any traditional sense of the term.
Instead, the bridges are installed directly into your jawbone and, once the titanium abutments are fused to the bone, the replacement teeth can be installed there.
Many of our clients remark that their new set of teeth looks even better than their original set! Best of all, these teeth act and look just like the real thing.
Living With Missing Teeth is Dangerous
Even if you’ve only lost one tooth, chances are, this will accelerate the decay of other teeth in your mouth. The gap left behind will cause remaining teeth to drift away from each other. It will become more difficult to clean between these gaps and the chances of plaque buildup will increase. This can cause worsening gum disease.
Gum disease is a persistent infection. If this infection spreads to your lungs, heart, or brain it can cause serious, permanent health problems. It is important to address this problem quickly.
While it may seem that replacing a tooth is entirely cosmetic, it really isn’t. Dental implants can also reduce the risk of future health problems related to your oral hygiene and beyond.
