A single tooth can be replaced with one implant and one crown. Dental implants stay comfortably in place and do not affect speech; they also do not affect healthy adjacent teeth or lead to bone loss as with some bridges and dentures. Care for your ActOn dental implants is the same as caring for your own, natural teeth.
Implants have been used for more than a quarter of a century and more patients are choosing dental implants as a replacement option. One survey shows that more than 1.5 million dental implants are placed a year and that number is expected to grow.

How will the dental implant be placed?
Every patient is different. Some steps can be combined during a visit and sometimes prep work has to be done to an area before dental implant surgery can start. Dr. Slaven will work with you to determine the best treatment plan.
Once the implant is placed in the jaw, the area has to heal. This tends to happen over the next two to six months. Before you leave the office, a temporary tooth replacement option can be worn over the implant site. So you don’t have a hole in your smile while you wait.
The final step is the installation of the permanent replacement tooth. This tooth is called a crown and is attached to a small metal post, called an abutment. Before you know it, you will forget you even had your tooth replaced. Your new tooth will look and feel real. You will even need to brush and floss just like a real tooth.
Are dental implants safe?
Contemporary dental implants have been in use for more than 30 years. Dental implants are typically made of titanium, a biocompatible material that is accepted by the body and fuses with the natural bone to create a sturdy foundation for your new replacement teeth. They have been proven safe and effective and will withstand daily use, and function like regular teeth.
Dental implant surgery is one of the safest and most predictable procedures in dentistry when performed by a trained and experienced dental implant dentist. Not only is Dr. Slaven a trained implant dentist, he is a periodontist.

What are the benefits of an implant over a bridge?
No Damage to Healthy Teeth
A bridge use to be the most common treatment for the loss of a single tooth. It required grounding down the health teeth on each side of the missing tooth to create support for a cemented in bridge. Unlike a bridge, a dental implant can replace a tooth without causing damage to the other teeth around it.
Maintain Healthy Bone
A dental implant is a titanium screw-like piece that is surgically installed in the jaw bone. It is an artificial tooth root. The new root helps maintain the jawbone and stop bone loss. Maintaining a healthy jaw bone ensures the structure and appearance of your facial features.
In the long run, a single implant has a longer success rate than a bridge. Overtime, gums can recede around a bridge. The cement that attached the three teeth together to create the bridge can erode over time and expose the base. Also bacteria can decay the anchor teeth leaving behind an unattractive smile.
