The process of getting traditional dental implants is a multi-step procedure that requires a lot of waiting. It’s important to understand that while both the implant and crown can be installed in the same day, this does not mean you only need to visit your implant doctor once. Regular checkups are necessary to ensure that the implant does not shift, and that the implant is being fused to the jawbone properly.
While there are significant benefits to same-day implants, not everyone is a prime candidate for them. Same-day implants require a lot of stability, which means that your jawbone must have enough bone volume and density to ensure a secure fit. They also require you to maintain excellent oral hygiene, follow a soft food diet, and avoid putting excessive force on the implant. The implant still needs to integrate with your jawbone, and if too much force is applied to the crown, there can be negative consequences — including potential implant failure.
Specific conditions that may disqualify you from same-day implants include regular smoking, autoimmune disease, hygiene issues, or a chronic disease. If you have a habit of grinding or clenching your teeth, same-day implants may also not be right for you.
