If you have one, several or many missing teeth that need to be replaced, you may want to consider getting dental implants. At our dental practice, ActOn Implants, many patients visit us to get St. Louis dental implants.

Patients may be getting dental implants to use with dental crowns, or dental implants to use with dental bridges or dentures. Dental implants are very healthy for the jawbone because they will function like the missing tooth root. When a tooth is missing, the jawbone will begin to atrophy due to the fact that there is no longer a tooth root. However, when there is a dental implant root in place, the jawbone will not atrophy, and the patient will be able to retain their more youthful appearance. Our patients thoroughly enjoy getting dental implants because the St. Louis dental implants look, feel, and function just like permanent teeth.

Dental implants are also a very healthy alternative for the mouth. This is because dental implants will not affect any healthy adjacent teeth, nor will they lead to bone loss the way some bridges or dentures can. If you take care of dental implants with regular brushing and flossing, and have periodic dental cleanings, your dental implants should be able to last you for a lifetime. Dental implants have been around for more than 25 years and are becoming increasingly popular as time goes on. A survey shows that now they are our more than 1.5 million dental implants placed a year, and that number is only growing. Our dentist, Dr. Matthew Slaven, will work with you to determine the best way for you to have your missing teeth replaced. He will also let you know if any prep work needs to be done in your mouth before the implant surgery can begin. Once the implants are placed in your mouth, there is a healing time that lasts between two and six months. Our dentist will be able to provide you with a temporary tooth replacement that can be worn over the implant site while you are waiting for the healing to be complete. Finally, when healing is completed, a permanent crown will be attached to the dental implant root. At this point your smile will look great and you will be able to eat anything you want in total comfort. You will probably soon forget that you even have a dental implant in your mouth because it will perfectly match your adjacent teeth.
